Veteran George Stanley Sims

June 17, 1953 - December 29, 2019

Veteran George Stanley Sims was born in Sumter County, Georgia on June 17, 1953, to the parentage of the late Mr. M. L. Sims and the late Mrs. Georgia Moore Sims. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1972 graduate of Americus High School. He was employed as an environmental service specialist with the Schley County Board of Education. He was united in Holy Matrimony on July 14, 2008 to Ms. Julia Pearl Mann. He served in the United States Army. He enjoyed reading, playing spades, but most of all, spending time with loved ones.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Francis Parks.


He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Mrs. Julia Pearl Mann Sims, Americus, GA; his children: Mr. Tariusa (Linda) Johnson, El Paso, TX; Mr. Machiel (Dollie) Laster and Mrs. Karen (Jessie) Hillary, all of Americus, GA; a brother, Mr. Henry (Joanne) Moore, Milwaukee, WI; a sister, Ms. Florence Moore (Sam Mann), Americus, GA; seven grandchildren: Tariusa Johnson, Jr., Ashley Clark, Sammy Clark, De’Marion Angry, Dominique Angry, Jasmine Pollard and Justin Jones; his great grandchildren: Ashtan McCants, Ashanti McCants, Peyton Clark, De’Mariona Angry, Dominique Angry, Jr. and Kamyrn Angry; a godson, Mr. Mark Laster, Americus, GA; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Mr. James L. (Martha) Mann, Mrs. Barbara (Alfred) Dowdell, Ms. Brenda Mann, Mrs. Linda (Charlie) Gardner, Mr. Victor Mann, all of Americus, GA and Ms. Kemba Maat of Memphis, TN; several nieces, including a special niece, Ms. Beshae Terry;  nephews, cousins, including special cousins: Mr. James (Faye) Biggins and Ms. Pamela Biggins; other relatives and friends, including best friends, Brother Sandy (Alice) Parks, Mr. Timothy (Kim) Whitt, and Mr. Jessie Mable also survive.

Sarah Bridges Sims

October 24, 1945 - December 26, 2019

Mrs. Sarah Bridges Sims was born in Preston, Webster County, Georgia on October 24, 1945, to the parentage of the late Mr. Walter Bridges and the late Mrs. Geneva Jackson Bridges. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. She joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she served until her health failed. She loved to make quilts and decorate. She is preceded in death by her brothers: John Bridges, James Bridges, Tommy Bridges, Robert Bridges and Frank Bridges.


She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of 54 years, Mr. Sam Sims, Plains, GA; two sons, Mr. Gregory Sims, Plains, GA and Mr. James (Yolanda) Sims, Albany, GA; two daughters, Ms. Angela Sims, Plains, GA and Ms. Katina Sims, Columbus, GA; three brothers: Mr. Walter (Dorothy) Bridges, Mr. Franklin Bridges, all of Americus, GA and Mr. Bobby Bridges, Augusta, GA; four sisters: Ms. Mary Bridges, Ms. Nora Perry, both of Americus, GA; Ms. Janice Laster, Plains, GA and Ms. Betty Jean Thompson, Columbus, GA; five sisters-in-law: Ms. Mattie Pearl (Joel) Lewis, Americus, GA; Ms. Ethelene Sims, Columbus, GA; Ms. Addie Pearl Sims and friend, Mr. John Turner, Montezuma, GA; Ms. Ruby Sims and Ms. Rose Sims, both of Plains, GA; fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Samuel Bernard Hill

December 16, 1974 - December 9, 2019

Mr. Samuel Bernard Hill was born in Sumter County, Georgia on December 16, 1974, to the parents of the late Ms. Sarah Ann Hill and Mr. Otha Floyd of Americus, Georgia. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. He was employed with Indian River Transport as a truck driver. He was married to Martha Renee Fuller Hill.


In addition to his father, Mr. Otha Floyd and his wife, Ms. Martha Fuller Hill, he is survived by five daughters: Ms. Ca’Decia Hill, Ms. April Fuller, Ms. Bridget Hill, Ms. LaKerya Hill and Ms. DeShaila Hill and one son, Mr. Anthony Walker, all of Americus, GA; his grandson, Cayden Fuller, Americus, GA; a sister, Ms. Jacquelene Hill and friend, Jeffrey Ballard; a brother, Deputy Covery Antwan (Marissa) Hill, all of Americus, GA; his mother-in-law, Ms. Shirley Hall, Desoto, GA; his father-in-law, Mr. Isiah Fuller, Jr., Americus, GA; his sisters-in-law: Ms. Jessica Fuller, Ms. Tammie Floyd and Ms. Teresa Floyd; four brothers-in-law: Mr. Isiah Fuller, III, Mr. Isreal Fuller, Mr. Sanford Floyd and Mr. Otha Floyd, Jr.; his aunts and uncles: Mr. Johnny Lockhart, Mr. Willie Lockhart, Mrs. Willie Ann (Bernard) Kimbrough, Mr. Homer Floyd, Mr. Walter Floyd, Mr. Frank Floyd, Ms. Annie Pride, Ms. Cassie Floyd, Ms. Clara Floyd and Mr. James Pride; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, including Angila Cooper, Tyeesiah Lockhart and Shayanda Lockhart, other relatives and friends also survive.

John Melvin Gordon

March 20, 1964-December 17, 2019

Mr. John Melvin Gordon was born in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia on March 20, 1964, to the parentage of the late Mr. Adolph Gordon and Mrs. Mary Nell May Gordon, who survives. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1982 graduate of Americus High School. At an early age, he joined the New Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was employed with Caravelle Boats.


In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memories to three devoted sisters: Mrs. Lorna (Pastor Gregory) Moye, Sr., Leesburg, GA; Ms. Darlene Gordon and Ms. Nitosha Gordon, both of Americus, GA; two devoted brothers: Mr. Reginald Gordon, Atlanta, GA and Mr. Danny Gordon, Americus, GA; one niece, Ms. Kerby Monts, Americus, GA, five nephews: Mr. Gregory Moye, Jr., Mr. Jeffery (Tamara) Moye, all of Albany, GA; Mr. Zamarell Jackson, Americus, GA; Mr. Joshua Gordon and Mr. Johnathan Gordon, both of Atlanta, GA; two great nephews: Mr. Jeffery Moye, Jr. and Mr. Jayden Seay; one great niece, Ms. V’loree Moye; four aunts: Ms. Elizabeth Jackson, Canton, OH; Ms. Annie Batiste, Long Beach, CA; Ms. Ray Jean Mitchell, Midwest City, OK and Mrs. Louise (Eddie) Anthony, Americus, GA; six uncles: Mr. Leonard Gordon, New York, NY; Mr. Robert Maye, Columbus, OH; Mr. Kelvin Maye, Americus, GA; Mr. James Maye, Denver, CO; Mr. John Maye, Springfield, NJ and Mr. Charles Maye, Long Beach, CA; and a host of cousins, including a devoted cousin, Mr. Kelvin Jones, Atlanta, GA; a devoted god-brother, Mr. Hubert Turner, Albany, GA and other relatives and friends, including a devoted friend, Mr. Chris Lewis, Americus, GA also survive. 

Deirdra Morgan-Smith

June 10, 1963-December 4, 2019

Deirdra Morgan-Smith— wife, mother and friend of many who was affectionately known as “DeeDee”— passed on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Born on June 10, 1963, in Americus, Georgia, DeeDee was the youngest of ten children born to Mrs. Frances Robinson Morgan. She received her education in the Sumter County Public School System. She joined the family’s church, Piney Grove #3 Baptist Church and after her marriage to the late William Weston Smith, she joined the Church of God in Christ in Plains, Georgia. She went to work in several positions before finding her passion working as a home health nurse. She loved her work and was dedicated to caring for others. She worked diligently until her health started to fail. 


DeeDee loved to cook and often shared her meals with family and friends. A loving and caring person, she will be missed by all that knew her.


Left to cherish her memories are her three children: Ms. Kendra Morgan, Mr. Cornelius (Barbara) Morgan and Ms. Karese Smith; eight grandchildren: Tylek (Kiara) Cooper, Kaliyah Morgan, Geontavious Laster, Jayla Morgan, Marques Carrillo Morgan, Jasmin Morgan, Hailee Morgan and Kaliq Smith; three brothers: Mr. Jessie (Bettye) West, Mr. Virgil Morgan and Rev. Dr. Robert (Chandra) Morgan; four sisters: Ms. Ella Mae Morgan, Dr. Mary Nell (William) Brown, Ms. Sarah Pride and Mrs. Linda (Eddie) Smith; her loving god-children, Ms. LaShun White and Mr. Markel (Lateesha) Mitchell and a host of other relatives and friends survive.
