MRS. THELMA SMITH DAVIS Mrs. Thelma Smith Davis, affectionately known as “Diamond,” was born in Sumter County, Georgia on December 24, 1923 to the parentage of the late Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Mattie Smith. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she joined the Springhill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jessie Thomas. She was married to the late Mr. Leroy Davis, Jr. and to this union thirteen children were born. Two sons and one daughter precedes her in death. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed making her home an inviting and warm space. She leaves to cherish her passing, four daughters: Ms. Eddie Jean White of West Virginia, Mrs. Alice (Henry) Battle and Ms. Lillie Pearl Kennedy, both of Americus, GA, and a special devoted and loving daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Geneva (Earnest) Banks, Plains, GA; six sons: Mr. Charlie Jean Davis, Mr. Joseph (Earnestine) Davis, Mr. Arthur Lee Davis, Mr. Eddie Lewis Davis, all of Americus, GA, Mr. Willie (Jackie) Davis of Columbia, SC and Mr. James (Evelyn) Davis of Albany, GA; one sister, Ms. Mattie Sue Thomas of Akron, OH; 72 grandchildren including a special and devoted granddaughter, Ms. Sonya Solomon; 105 great grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren; a host of brothers and sisters-in-law: Mr. Alvin (Mary) Tyson, Ms. Juanita Varnum, Ms. Julia Mae Smith, Ms. Ruby Mae Tyson, Mr. Sonny Tyson and Ms. Minnie Mitchell; and a host of other relatives, cousins, and sorrowing friends also survive.
