DEACON JOE H. FRANKLIN, SR.

Deacon Joe H. Franklin, Sr. was born August 24, 1938 in Webster County, Ga to the late Mr. Floyd Franklin and the late Mrs. Della Howard Franklin.  He was educated in the public schools of Webster County.  At an early age, he joined the Lebanon Baptist Church.  He served there faithfully for over 50 years.  He was ordained as a deacon in 1969.  He was an usher, assistant secretary of the church, Secretary and later Chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry since 2002. He was married to the former Miss Miriam Polk on February 20, 1960.  To their union, 5 children were born.  His daughter Gwendolyn, and his brothers, Curtis and Floyd Franklin and  his grandson, Brandon all precede him in death.  He worked for the CSX Railroad for more than 20 years and later for Middle Flint Meals on Wheels Program. He was a devoted husband and loving father.

 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Miriam Franklin, Plains, GA;  his children, Dea. Joe (Helen) Franklin, Jr., Parrott, GA, Dea. Richard (Gussie) Franklin and Mr. Carlton (Tammy) Franklin, all of Americus, GA and Ms. Kimberly Franklin, Plains, GA;  his brothers and sisters:  Mr. Berlin (Ethel) Franklin, Seat Pleasant, MD, Mr. Sammy (Diane) Franklin, Ms. Betty Goins and Mr. Ulysess (Rosa) Franklin, all of McDonough, GA, Elder Larry (Peggy) Franklin, Plains, GA, Mr. Jackie (Rosa) Franklin, Americus, Ga and Ms. Dorothy (Gordon) Crosby, Spartanburg, SC;  brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. Mack (Shirley) Polk and Charlie Lewis, Americus, GA, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Miller and Min. Eugene Lewis, all of Plains, GA;  he is also survived by a devoted grand daughter, Destenee and Ernest, Melissa, Johnathon, Joey, Keithon, Demetrius, Vertrescia, Tondalaya, Richard, Jr., Cassie, Matthew, and Michael; his devoted Pastor and friend, Rev. Hosie Waters and wife, friends Dea. and Mrs. R. L. Tyson, neighbor, Sis. Susie Henderson and a loving church family also survive.
