Deacon Willie Robert Wilson was born in Sumter County, Georgia on February 28, 1914 to the parentage of the late Mr. John Wilson and the late Mrs. Louisiana Myrick Wilson. At the age of 12, he joined the Jerusalem Baptist Church, where at age 24 he became chairman of the Board of Deacons and served for 60 years. He also served as church secretary and sunday school supertendant for many years.He was a mason and received his gold card from the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge Ellaville Light 443 with many years of service. Deacon Wilson only received a 5th grade education, but he was well read and knowledgable, full of wisdom and understanding. He spent most of his young years as a sharecrop farmer. After leaving the farm he worked at Glover Wholesale for over 25 years. He enjoyed hunting with his best friend "Bud" Rouland. In his later years he enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, Ms. Camilla Wilson, Beverly and Mrs. Mary (Henry) Edwards; seven sons, Mr. Woodrow (Lillie Mae) Wilson, Mr. Sammy (Barbara) Wilson, Mr. Willie (Thelma) Wilson, Jr., Mr. Henry (Shirley) Wilson, Mr. Edward (Sara) Wilson, Mr. Harold (Mary) Wilson and Mr. Arthur James Wilson; thirteen step-children, Mr. Jimmy Lee Johnson, Mr. Walter B. Johnson, Ms. Bertha Fowler, Ms. Geneva S. Malone, Ms. Minnie Walker, Ms. Earlene Robinson, Evangelist Mary (Charlie) Williams, Mr. Willie Gene (Minnie) Ingram, Mr. Arthur (Dr. Oneida) Ingram, Ms. Anzie Jones, Ms. Doris Perry, Minister Beatrice Ingram and Ms. Mammie R. Boone; sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren; a host of step grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends, including caring friends, Mrs. Bennie Mae Foster & family, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Mathis & Family and Ms. Ella Payne also survive. |
