MR. JAMES E. SIMS

Mr. James Emmitt Sims, affectionately known as “Bear,” was born on November 17, 1943 in Plains, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Sam Sims, Jr. and the late Mrs. Nancy Laster-Sims. He received his education in the public school system of Plains. At an early age, he joined Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. B. Hillsman. He worked at Williams Warehouse, Inc. for over 50 years until his health began to fail. He is preceded in death by four brothers and one son, Robert White.

He leaves to cherish his passing, his wife of 45 years, Mrs. Ruby L. Sims of Plains, GA; three devoted children: Mrs. Brenda (Michael) Styles of Plains, GA, Mr. Jerry (LaKeisha) Sims and Ms. Dana Sims both of Americus, GA; seven grandchildren who miss him dearly that he helped raise: Ke’Juanah Morgan, Michael Merritt, ShiHuang Styles, Wycovia Merritt, Quonisha Merritt, Quontavious Merritt and Jamal Smith; five sisters: Mrs. Mattie (Joel) Lewis of Americus, GA, Ms. Addie Pearl (John Turner) Sims of Oglethorpe, GA, Mrs. Ethel L. Sims of Columbus, GA, Mrs. Nancy (Henry) Harris and Mrs. Earnestine Jackson of Americus, GA; two brothers: Mr. Sam (Sarah) Sims, III of Plains, GA and Mr. Otis Sims of Atlanta, GA; two brothers-in-law: Mr. Jimmy Merritt of Americus, GA and Mr. Oscar Merritt of Plains, GA; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Earnestine Laster of Colorado Springs, CO and Mrs. Rosa Sims of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; 43 grand nieces and nephews, 58 great grand nieces and nephews and 12 great-great grand nieces and nephews; aunts: Mrs. Lillie Pearl Laster of Flordia, Ms. Irene Laster of Plains, GA, Mrs. Lady B. Sims of Americus, Ga and Mrs. Edna Sims of Americus, GA; one uncle, Mr. Eddie Sims of Albany, GA; and several devoted friends, including Mrs. Auntry Mae Sims and family, Mrs. Jean Singletary, Mr. Eugene Sims, Mr. George Arthur Sims and employers and employees of Williams Warehouse, Inc. also survive.
