MRS. DORIS LUSANE Mrs. Doris Gray Lusane was born on September 28, 1942 in Sumter County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mrs. Grossie Mae Butts–Farris and the late Mr. McClendon Gray.
She met the love of her life, Mr. Henry Lee Lusane, Sr., and married on August 31, 1963. Upon this union of forty-eight years, seven children were born. She attended the public school system of Sumter County, and later in life, she received her GED from South Georgia Technical College in May 2009. She was employed at Carter’s Cleaners, Manhattan Shirt Company, and Davidson Rubber Company. She was a self-taught musician, a bus driver, a sales representative for World Book Encyclopedia and an insurance agent for North Carolina Mutual for many years. She was the publisher and producer of the songs “City of Love” and “Bound to Pay.” Later in life, she was the manager of Dorothea’s Beauty Salon until her passing.
At an early age, she joined Union Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Lusane later moved her membership to Old Corinth Baptist Church where was a faithful and dedicated member. Her grandparents, the late Mr. Albert Butts and the late Mrs. Lily Mae Butts, were strong spiritual influences in her life. She served as a Deaconess and as a choir member for a number of years. She enjoyed going to Bible Study under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C. L. McKinstry.
She is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Ms. Erica Lusane and Mr. Clifton Lusane; one great grandchild, Mr. Cornelius Barker; and one sister, Ms. Pearline Smith.
Doris leaves cherished memories to her husband, Mr. Henry Lusane, Sr., Americus, GA; children: Mr. Henry Lee (Angela) Lusane, Jr., Ms. Dorothea Lusane Mckenzie and devoted friend, Mr. Ulysses Sims, Jr., Mrs. Mary (Kenneth) Cross, Mrs. Tracy Eileen (Eric) Lusane Finch , Ms. Monica Yvonne Lusane and devoted friend, Ms. Tangalia Robinson, Mr. Marcus Wayne (Tiffany) Lusane and Mrs. Ann Lusane (Earnest) Smith, all of Americus, GA; mother-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Lusane, Americus, GA; sisters, Ms. Margaret Barron, Americus, GA, Ms. Lillie Rhea Jackson, Atlanta, GA, Ms. Melissa Gary, Albany, GA, and Ms. Vicki Gray Pless who was raised as a sister, Stafford, VA; a brother, Mr. Albert Gray (Saundra), Warner Robins, GA; brothers-in-law, Mr. Willie Lusane, Mr. Eddie Lusane, Mr. Howard (Janice) Lusane, and Mr. Lawrence (Edith) Lusane, all of Americus, GA; sisters-in-law, Ms. Alberta Dowdell, Tampa, FL and Ms. Ruby Mae James, Columbus, OH; fourteen grandchildren, Keandra, Octavia, Henry III, Shariah, Megan, Braxton, Eric, Jr., Sage, Tisha, Telisha, Marcus II, Joshua, Lauryn and Alaysha; one great grandchild, Korneal; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including devoted friends, Maellen Lusane and Geneva Lusane also survive.
